Activities for the Spring Months!

Kick off the new season with these spring-related activities: explore outside, shop for fresh fruits, and catch up on entertainment!

Activities for the Spring Months!

As the winter months close, and the warmer days start peaking around the corner (though it seems as though Virginia just cannot shake the snow), it appears to be increasingly more difficult to find things to do around Northern Virginia. After being stuck inside for two years, people must be aching, eager for things to do to get away from their homes. But as soon as that feeling comes, it is immediately met with the challenge of actually planning the activity. Here is a list of things you can do to spring your way back into the warmer months!

Nature-based Activities

Smelling the newly fresh blooming flowers instead of the crisp, dense air that winter brought is crucial to living spring in the best way possible. Of course, these activities would not be recommended if you have allergies, but there will be more allergy-friendly activities later down the list.

The Neabsco Greenway Trail Head

This 4.8-mile hike is definitely worth the trek. It runs along the Neabsco Creek with lots of greenery and different views to see. The images below are sourced from [here], check the website out for more pictures!

Lake Ridge Marina

The Lake Ridge Marina offers an array of boats to rent, or the use of their boating launch if you have access to your own boat. They do also allow fishing on the basis that you have a fishing license. The Lake Ridge Marina offers pedal boats, kayaks, canoes, Jon boats, and stand-up paddle boats. There are fees to be paid, whether you are just using the boating launch, or renting a boat. You can rent boats in increments of 1 hour, 2 hours, or all day (except for the pedal boat having the option of half an hour). Check out [this] website for more details about costs. Farmers’ Markets to Embrace Spring

So many fruits are now in season! Many of them would be a perfect addition to ice cream or made into a pie. Instead of shopping at a grocery store, shop at a local farmers market for the freshest fruits and vegetables to star in a new recipe you are trying.

The Dale City Farmers’ Market

The Dale City Farmers’ Market is open from 8 am-1 pm. They have a large selection of options to choose from, offering the most farm-fresh, recently harvested foods from locally grown areas.

Prince William Farmers’ Market

The Prince William Farmers’ Market has recently opened following the Dale City Farmers’ Market’s relocation. During quarantine, the Dale City Farmers’ Market had to move locations to the Pfitzner Stadium in order to provide space for guidelines relating to COVID. Last year, in 2021, The Dale City Farmers’ Market moved back to its original location once it was deemed safe to do so. Because of the popular demand for continuing the farmers’ market at the Pfitzner Stadium location, The Prince William Farmers’ Market has opened in its place.

You can also read up on the history of the Farmers’ Markets in the area and how they relate to Cecil D. Hyton, the person our school is named after! The link is [here] as well as the source to the image above.
