Best and Worst Dressed at the Oscars

Oscars 2022 has been all the talk, taking the internet by storm. After Will Smith and Chris Rock’s “disagreement,” the internet has taken its focus away from the red carpet fashion – these are my best and worst dressed stars of the night.

Best Dressed:

  1. Kendall Jenner

Although she was not on the main carpet, her Vanity Fair After Party look was enough to make the list. Following her sister – Kim Kardashian, Kendall steps out in custom Balenciaga. Kendall is giving us the ultimate “Cool Girl” look In a stunning black off-the-shoulder gown with a full, voluminous bust. Paired with her classic slick back and gun range-esque glasses, Kendall looked amazing.

    2. Dakota Johnson

The Lost Daughter star appeared on the Vanity Fair carpet in 2022 ready-to-wear Gucci. The dusty rose gown featured full, sheer, lengthy sleeves with feathers and subtle sequins following. Her full skirt has the same effect, giving us a gorgeous and classy look. With little to no accessories and minimal hair and makeup, she let her dress do the talking.

     3. Lily James

Pam and Tommy star Lily James joins the Oscars Red Carpet for the first time. James wore a Lacey pink Atelier Versace gown, featuring a slit up to her leg and a flowing tool train. This feminine dream of a dress was just perfect for Lily. Although it is not the craziest or most innovative dress, I think it’s perfect for the actress as it’s classy, simple, and elegant. She paired it with matching platform pumps and debuted her brunette hair as she went blonde for her hit show – Pam and Tommy.

    4. Kodi Smit-McPhee

“The Power of the Dog” actor, Kodi Smit showed up at the Oscars in a pastel baby blue Bottega Veneta suit. With matching accessories and platform boots, Smit-McPhee did not disappoint. Male actors usually show up in a simple tuxedo and nothing more. Although a tux is a classic, I love when men switch it up. Kodi did just that, and he did it very gracefully.

Worst dressed:

  1. Kim Kardashian

Kim is known for being a trendsetter and shocking everyone with her looks. Lately, she has been seen in head to toe Balenciaga. She did the same for her Oscar’s Vanity Fair look – but it was just boring. Seen in her teal body con full-length gown, featuring back cutouts and attached gloves, it was disappointing. Although it was “on brand” for Kim, it was too simple and not Oscar. She paired this gown with a classic slicked lower back length pony and gray sunglasses – similar to her sister’s look. This look is boring and overdone.

    2. Tracee Ellis Ross

Actress Tracee Ellis Ross has always been an icon on any carpet she’s on, with mature and graceful looks. This year, she wore a Carolina Herrara mermaid-style true red dress. The dress itself was just OK for me, but I feel it was unflattering and not her best look. The cutout piece was too boring for someone who previously kills on a red carpet. I was underwhelmed.

      3. Zoë Kravitz

“The Batman” actress is nothing short of graceful and stunning, known for her simple and unique yet chic looks, her outfit was quite frankly expected. The dusted pink Saint  Laurent dress is just not good. This is not Kravitz’s fault, this dress is awkwardly fitted and quite boring. She paired it with her classic soft glam. Zoë looked beautiful herself, but her dress wasn’t it for me.

    4. Billie Eilish

To finish this list off, we have singer Billie Eilish. Billie is young and fun, this reflects in her fashion choices. Her most iconic looks can be remembered as a matching Gucci or Louis Vuitton loose-fitting set. Although Eilish’s style has seemingly changed into an elevated version of what she wore before, her Oscar’s look was just distasteful. The 20-year-old showed up in a black ruffled off-the-shoulder Gucci gown. Although this was most definitely my least favorite look of the night – she did leave the event with an Oscar in hand, so, who am I to speak?

The 94th Annual Oscar was filled with star-studded pop culture moments and interesting fashion choices. I’m sure I missed many amazing looks. Please remember these are just my opinions, and fashion is subjective. All looks are great in their own way, even if the next person doesn’t think so. What was your most and least favorite look of the night?
