YOU season 3 is 10 episodes long, each about an hour and follows the main character Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgley, and now his wife Love Quinn Goldberg, played by Victoria Pedretti.

This new season follows Joe and Love moving to Madre Linda, a seemingly calm suburb neighborhood, with their newborn in an attempt to start over after their murderous rampage. Season 3 deals with a new mystery: the next door neighbor goes missing. On top of the initial blow of a missing neighbor to their new life, the show dives deeper into Joe and Love’s relationship.

Their relationship experiences extreme highs and deep dives as they struggle with staying committed to their new life. In an attempt to save it, Joe and Love go to couples therapy for issues including trust and abandonment issues. But the murderous twists remain undisclosed.

We learn what crimes both Love and Joe have done and why they have done those things. This includes flashbacks to Joe’s childhood and an explanation to Love’s previous marriage. As viewers learned through season 1 and 2, Joe is an orphan who has experienced domestic abuse and bullying. Viewers and Joe himself do not get closure on these issues as he repeats his old patterns falling for and becoming obsessed with women.

*Major season three spoilers*

Joe falls for a librarian coworker, Marienne, and she quickly becomes the new fixation. He begins disregarding his wife, Love and their son, Henry Forty.

Joe and Love both lose control of themselves and out of presumed desperation they betray each other. They cheat on each other but more sinisterly in the last episode: Love tries to kill Joe but Joe anticipated her move and so, Love ends up dead. And framed by Joe for a murder suicide in the Madre Linda suburbs.

Unsurprisingly, the suburbs of Madre Linda graciously accept the bow wrapped explanation and begin to move on. Joe, however, does not.

Despite Love being dead, Henry in good hands, and Madre Linda handled, Joe begins another new life in Paris in search of Marienne, who had previously confessed her desire to run away to France.

Each episode in season three leaves viewers at the edge of their seat and when viewers think it cannot get any worse for the couple and the families of the suburbs, it does indeed get worse.

Season three invited the discussion of current social issues and movements. The show mentions popular social media app TikTok, discusses Missing White Woman Syndrome when their neighbor goes missing, the COVID-19 pandemic, and even the mistrust of vaccinations from anti-vaxxers.
