The Return of the Don Geronimo Show

The Return of the Don Geronimo Show

Originally starting out as “The Don and Mike Show” in the mid-1980s, many fans in the D.C. area listened to Don Geronimo on the radio. The show has returned after over a decade off the air, though this time with only Don. Don has retired from the radio a few times, he has been on and off on different radio stations, his own show, and guest appearances ever since his first part time appearance on WINX, which was a radio station. His first time on the air was in 1971 in Rockville, Maryland, at the age of 13.

The Don and Mike show ran on until 2008, when Don announced he was going to retire from the show and focus on his personal life. In 2005, his first wife passed away in a Car Accident, this caused a lot of stress and problems for Don and his family. He later left the Don and Mike Show in 2008, after being on air for over 20 years. Shortly after, he announced he was going to return to radio on the radio station WOCM, which is stationed in Ocean City Maryland, entitled “Don Geronimo’s Rockin’ Soul Show” in 2009. On the station he would often play Rock hits from the 70s and 80s era, after only two months on the show, he got fired from the station due to having different ideas and creative differences, since he didn’t want to do it their way. He then again retired, he sometimes filled in at WCBS-FM’s classic rock on some weekdays in New York.

He later moved to Sacramento California and became a midday host for 1140 the fan on KHTK in 2010. In 2013, he was replaced on the show, and again retired, but was still employed with CBS Sports radio. In 2014, he announced that he would no longer be on air for Sacramento or WJFK in New York, he again went on to retirement and moved back to Maryland. He was on the air here and there for some stations in the DC/Metro area, but only in recurring appearances or filling in for hosts who couldn’t be on radio for certain days. He wasn’t present on the air that much, until 2021.

In early September 2021, iHeart Radio station and Big 100.3 Washington’s Classic Rock, announced that the Don Geronimo show will return on their station starting on September 13, 2021. Don hosts the show on weekdays from 5:30 AM- 10AM EST, or also known as “The Morning Drive” in the radio industry. the show is followed by The John Clay Wolfe show starting right after the show until the afternoon, holding the midday section. The Don Geronimo show has made quite a big return and has new fans and old fans tuning in every morning, including myself. He plays classic rock hits, have talk sessions, phone calls from fans, and events to give away tickets on air on the show. He has gained a lot of new success from coming back on air recently, and all will continue to go well. Big 100.3 is my main radio station, that I have been listening to for over a year, every time I am driving I have it on, and I am glad to say that Don is a welcome addition to the station, and he has easily made a standout performance every time he is on air. All seems very positive for Don in the future.
