Golden Globes Fashion: Who Was Serving Looks and Who Wasn’t?

This year’s Golden Globes had a lot of fashion fails, but there was the occasional look that blew us all away.

The Golden Globes has started the award season, and along with it a wave of new celebrity fashion. Trends and fails alike, the Globes always gives us something new, creative, and designer to gawk at. Here are the highlights:

1. Lady Gaga

Rating: ♥♥♥♥

In a stunning periwinkle Valentino dress, Lady Gaga absolutely stole the title of the best outfit of the night. The dress was simple, elegant, and all around glamorous, a perfect piece for the night.

2.  Billy Porter

Billy Porter poses with a grey cape lined with pink silk on the red carpet.

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

When I first saw this outfit, about seven hours ago, my jaw dropped. Billy Porter single-handedly destroyed toxic masculinity and raised the standard for all men’s fashion. Every award season we get a round of men wearing boring black tuxedos, and if we’re lucky they may have slightly pattered blazers, but this look absolutely demolished every other man’s outfit.

3.  Kiki Layne and Allison Brie

Sheer tulle is definitely in this season, and Layne and Brie definitely rocked it. With the soft pastels and bedazzled aspects, these two definitely made a statement.

4.  Lupita Nyong’o, Chadwick Boseman, and Danai Gurira

Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥

The stars of Black Panther (excluding Micheal B. Jordan, his bland black tux just wasn’t up to par) looked absolutely amazing in their bold outfits. Chadwick Boseman, as he did at last year’s Met Gala, held up men’s fashion (along with Billy Porter of course.) Lupita Nyong’o looked vibrant as always, but I think the real star was Danai Gurira. In her shocking orange number, Gurira looked bold, glamorous, and overall just creative and original.

5.  Gemma Chan

Rating: ♥♥♥♥

Dressed in Valentino Haute Couture, Gemma Chan stole the runway with simple elegance and the surprise of untraditional shorts attached to her gown.

6.  Constance Wu

More sheer tulle, accompanied with a pop of color in the ribbon, gave Constance Wu a trendy but subtle look which was only enhanced by her necklace.

  1. Anne Hathaway

An animal print number is always a rather risky choice, and Anne Hathaway did not choose correctly. It’s just unattractive, uninspiring, and influencing no trends this year.

2.  Cody Fern

Rating: ♥

While Cody Fern didn’t follow the trend of black tuxes, his outfit left much to be desired. It looked like something I could find in H&M, and it was far from glamorous or elegant, it wasn’t even creative.

3.   Amber Heard

Rating: ♥♥

Amber Heard’s dress starts off in the right direction, but it stops abruptly and goes into a flowing white gown for some unnecessary reason. If she’d gone with the long white flowing gown or tight-fitting velvet dress she would’ve looked great, but she went for half and half, which was not a risk worth taking.

4.   Nicole Kidman

Rating: ♥♥

While the color and sparkles are rather pretty, the cut didn’t look good on her at all. It was too loose at the bottom, and her clutch made the outfit even odder.

5.   Caitriona Balfe

This dress is just generally unattractive. The cut is odd, the colors are depressing,  and the rose in the center is completely unnecessary.

6.  Emily Blunt

The top of the dress is very pretty, but as you get lower, the dress looks as if it’s been ripped into shreds at the bottom. The skirt in general in unattractive, the designer should keep the top and start again.
