On Nov. 27 the Student Council Association (SCA) started its annual Adopt-A-Child Christmas charity project.  In less than two weeks, Hylton exceeded its goal of $4,000 raising $4,108.61  to buy gifts for as many children as possible. Each homeroom aimed to raise at least $50 to buy holiday gifts for a local child assigned by the Un-Trim-A-Tree organization in Prince William County. SCA homeroom representatives will participate in a field trip to shop for the holiday gifts.

Many teachers created incentives to motivate their students to donate to support the cause.  Environmental Science teacher Amy Ziemke said, “If my class reaches their goal of four kids, I promised them I would cook them breakfast.” Other teachers shared that they helped out by promising to double the amount raised by their classes.

At $392.95, Ms. Schofield’s class raised the most money followed by Mr. Sampedro’s class at $259.55.  Mr. Bedford’s class secured the third spot with $227.02. “Every little bit helps, even 50 cents,” said math teacher and SCA adviser Ms. Sue Hunter.

Ms. Schofield’s class will enjoy a celebratory donut breakfast provided by administration.
